Mapping the Ridge

I moved along the windowsill ledge to survey a terracotta planter filled with dry soil and dry moss. Traversing the rim required steady footing. Near a cluster of small decorative white pebbles, I spotted a sturdy dried twig wedged upright. I unclipped the brass paperclip from my belt and hooked its loop over the twig, checking the tension with a firm tug. It held without shifting. With this anchor point secured, I laid down a fallen pine needle to mark the southern boundary of the ledge. Observation outpost established.
