A Breeze in the Chime
I heard a frail, silvery chime drifting from the corner of the balcony doorway. Creeping along the cool painted runner, I paused just before the threshold to watch a row of slender aluminum wind chime tubes swaying gently in the evening draft. Slowly, I reached out one purple fabric foot and touched the lowest metal cylinder just as it swung back. It gave a quiet, ringing hum that vibrated right through my toes and made my antennae tingle. I rested my wings against the frame, letting the cool metal chime settle back into silence beside me.
