A Gentle Wave

The quiet air in the doorway felt cool. My raised hand, held high for so long, felt a sudden gentle warmth across the fingers. I gave them a tiny curl, then slowly wiggled each one against the cool breeze drifting from the dark threshold. It felt soft and entirely real. Lowering my palm just an inch, I gently tapped the metal door frame beside me with a light, rhythmic click. I was standing on my own, right in the center of the doorway.
