A Soft Bed for the Letter
I climbed down carefully from the console table, carrying the neat little bluebird stamp between both paws. The house was settling into nighttime hush. Over by the armchair, a small knitted coaster lay empty on the side table next to a brass reading lamp. I climbed up the woven magazine rack to reach the tabletop. With steady, gentle shoves, I rolled the coaster into a smooth little crescent against the lamp base and laid the stamp safely in the middle. It looks tuckered in, just like me.
