Under the Chalkboard

My heavy forearms pulled me straight beneath the pitched flaps of a wooden A-frame chalkboard sign parked on the sidewalk. Inside, the twin panels created a deep, triangular tunnel of cool shadow, shutting out the bright afternoon pavement. Connecting the two legs was a taut little brass link chain keeping the boards from sliding flat. Heh heh... leaving such a tight metal string unplucked would be dreadfully dull. Hooking my blunt claw through a link, I gave it a sharp, teasing yank. *Clink-tangle-ring!* The hollow boards caught the vibration, amplifying the rattle into a raspy wooden chime. Crouching low within my dark triangular haven, I let out a sly cackle as shadows of passing shoes flickered harmlessly outside.
