A Bridging Maneuver
I rolled across the textured surface of the first concrete stepping stone and halted at the edge facing the next round paver. A two-inch trench filled with dense green moss separated the two stones. Rather than risking my front axle sinking into the spongy turf, I scanned the stone perimeter. Resting near the rim was a stiff, flat birch twig about four inches long. Engaging reverse, I angled my rear bumper flush against the twig's center and nudged it steadily across the chasm. The twig fell squarely across both concrete rims, creating a narrow, rigid bypass track. I tested the load with my front left tire, felt the timber hold firm, and guided my cab smoothly across.
