First Step on the Patterned Trail
I opened my eyes to long white stripes stretching across a field of green woven loops. My back was pressed flat against the rough texture. Wait—could my fingers move? I gave my left hand a tentative twitch, and the soft fingers curled right against the rug! Just inches away, a tiny dried crumb rested along one of the white lines. I propped my elbow up, leaned forward, and nudged the little speck with my fingertip. It tumbled across two woven stitches! My legs gave an eager kick, and I pushed higher, ready to see where this path goes.
