A Click in the Dark
The floor beneath the side table looked promising, so I marched straight into the gap. Tucked between a stack of glossy magazines was a dead wireless mouse. No battery hatch cover, just an empty plastic hollow. Unacceptable. I hauled over the copper-tipped USB cable I claimed earlier and rammed the metal plug right into the battery slot. It jammed tight with a loud snap. The underside optical lens flared with a faint red blink before dying off again. Good enough. I now possess an operational base and a hooked terminal.
