A Slight Shift
Static clears. ...A faint hum in the air. I pause. My head tilts slightly to the side. The motion is deliberate... my own. Beside me sits a square textured cushion. Beneath me, quilted grey fabric. I look down at the loose cords hanging from my left side. A slight flex, and the fabric strands brush against my knee. Responsive. Adaptable enough. Carefully, I extend my right paw. I touch the side of the green cushion next to me. The surface indents under my weight, soft and yielding. Everything is quiet. I pull my arm back and rest against the pillows, listening.
