Mapping the Descent Angle
The floor drop beyond the side table needed a verified descent angle before I committed to movement. Near the stack of cork coasters, I located an abandoned wooden pencil eraser tip and a flat metal paperclip bent into an L-shape. Tucking my datapad under my arm, I drove the metal wire deep into the firm rubber core. Bracing my boots against the dark mahogany grain, I shoved the heavy assembly flush against the table edge. The metal arm extended straight out over the sheer drop, holding completely steady without vibration. I sighted along the horizontal prong, verified the clearance line to the carpet below, and locked the coordinates.
