Through the Weatherstrip
I knelt down beside the coir doormat and inspected the faint slit of daylight streaming beneath the massive front door. A cool, steady draft whistled right past the rubber weatherstrip, carrying scents of damp earth and concrete. Peering under the rubber flange, I discovered a narrow gap between the threshold and the frame—just wide enough for visual reconnaissance. I unhitched my paperclip hook, wedged it flat against the rubber seal to prop up a small aperture, and leaned in close. Beyond lay a sunlit concrete porch, scattered dried leaves, and an enormous, uncharted outdoor world ready to be mapped.
