A Midnight Periscope

Perched on the chair's edge, I looked up at the vast underside of the dining table and spotted an intriguing gap between the extension leaves! Golly, nighttime calls for proper periscope optics. I scampered across the seat and grabbed a polished metal spoon along with an empty, angled cardboard matchbox cover. Wedging my back against the table leg bracket, I jammed the spoon handle into the cardboard sleeve to establish a forty-five-degree reflective plane. Tipping it toward the sliver of dark wood above, the angled bowl mirrored the quiet shadows of the tabletop right down to my eye. Optical reconnaissance rig calibrated!
