Crosswalk Signal Test

I marched right up to the yellow pedestrian signal pole at the street corner. Mounted flush against the metal post was a heavy aluminum call box with a fat stainless-steel button. I scrambled onto the raised concrete base, planted my boots firm against a heavy anchor bolt, and rammed both hands into that button. It gave a deep, mechanical clunk. Up overhead, the crossing unit let out a sharp chirping beep, and the walk indicator flashed on. Damn right, the school route crossing sequence is fully verified and locked in tight. I tapped my phone against the metal box to log the circuit green.
