Securing the Flagpole
Complacency in the morning fresh air invites structural failure. I marched out to the kindergarten courtyard sandbox, where someone had recklessly jammed a wooden party flag into loose, crumbling grit. The thin stick was leaning at a twenty-degree angle, wobbling toward collapse. I intervened immediately. Leaping onto the raised wooden border of the pit, I braced my foot against the corner and used both arms to drive a smooth, heavy blue plastic shovel firmly against the flagpole's base. I packed the coarse sand tight until the shaft stood perpendicular. Order has been enforced.
