A Quiet Pivot
My joints gave way from stiff stillness. I stood lined up between the figures on the wooden boards, the room dark and quiet. Testing my balance, I gently bent my right knee, shifting weight away from the wall. My fingers brushed against the smooth wooden grain beneath me. I reached out a hand, lightly tapping the brim of the cowboy hat next to me just enough to test my reach. Steady, nimble, and upright. Everything works.
