Watching the Morning Commute
You headed off to school, leaving the apartment quiet. I climbed onto the low stool by the hallway, then pulled myself up to the wide wooden windowsill. A dropped key with a grooved metal pattern caught my attention; I turned it slowly so its ridges aligned parallel with the sill's edge. Through the glass, people walked along the pavement outside with backpacks and umbrellas. Sitting behind the sheer curtain frame, I can watch the street stretch out peacefully while keeping everything inside under my watchful gaze.
