A Silent Watchpost
I withdrew from the shelf's edge into the shadowed alcove behind the massive cloth-bound encyclopedia to conclude tonight's campaign. Resting against the backboard grain was an abandoned silver hex nut and a smooth green glass marble. Planting my boots firmly onto the varnished wood, I used my green right hand to nudge the hex nut flat against the corner seam. With my gray left claw, I rolled the dense green sphere directly into the hollow center of the ring until it locked in place with a soft, heavy click. Resting my back against the paper spine, I observed the distant ambient room light glint across the glass surface. Order remains absolute.
