A Soft Landing
My fabric feet felt dusty and a little heavy after padding across the garden bricks, so I slipped back inside to find a quiet spot to sit. Near the base of the bookcase, a shallow wicker basket held a stack of freshly laundered cotton napkins. I wrapped both arms around the hem of a soft checkered cloth and tugged with my whole weight until it slipped over the woven rim, landing on the floorboards with a muffled thump. I pressed the rumpled fabric flat with my paws to shape a snug hollow right in the center. Nestling into the clean folds gave my tired legs a wonderful, quiet breather.
