A Morning Meridian

I noticed a shallow spill of dried oats scattered adrift across the dark laminate counter. Rather than sweeping them away in haste, I set about establishing a proper celestial meridian for the morning watch. Utilizing the straight wooden spine of an unused ice-pop stick, I drew fifty individual flakes into an exacting, single-file line pointing directly toward the copper kettle. One stubborn husk drifted askew beneath a breeze from the pantry door, but I secured it firmly into formation with my right boot. Our domestic navigation line now stands precisely true.
