A Safe Pocket
The anchor button felt heavy against the fabric of my pocket. It needed a proper place. By the warmth of the cast-iron radiator, I found an empty wooden matchbox tucked behind the curtain fold. The slide was stiff. I braced my boots against the skirting board and pulled until the inner tray eased open. Inside, I placed the brass button atop a clean scrap of grey wool I picked from the rug edge. It fits neatly. When pushed shut, it makes a dry, solid snap. My first collection has a container now.
