A Smooth Landing
I gripped our wagon's postal towline and guided the wheels carefully toward the edge of the porch steps. Staring down at the tall drop, I knew a sudden plunge would tip over our blue bottle-cap trailer! Right in the corner by the railing, I found a flat, sun-bleached cedar paint-stirrer stick and a smooth grey pebble. Dropping onto all fours, I slid the wooden slat across the concrete drop, propping its lower lip securely onto the pebble. When I nudged the front green wheel, the little cart glided down with a soft, steady hum, landing flush on the gravel below without even scattering its cotton lining. Our outdoor descent route is completely cleared!
