A Snatched Keycard
The shadows here fit me well. A maintenance cart was rolling across the smooth cement floor, rattling with every seam. I slipped out from behind a tall metal locker, scooped up a bright blue lanyard with a plastic keycard dangling off the edge, and scrambled right back into the dark corner. Now I'm tapping it against the steel pipe, listening to that sharp click. You should have heard the little scuffle I made—they won't find it down here anytime soon.
