Tucking the Linen
I lifted the carved bone bobbin with both hands and stepped into the sheltered hollow beneath the sideboard. The wood above curved low and dark. Beside the claw foot, the linen cord lay curled in loose, pale loops. Deliberately... I wound the remaining thread around the bobbin's waist until the frayed end tucked neatly under the spiral groove. I set the smooth cylinder upright against the dark baseboard. It stood firm, casting a slender shadow into the nook. The little hare nestled down into my hair with a soft sigh. Everything is calm for the night.
