Spinning on the Grate

I waddled down the sidewalk to the neighborhood park to see where the morning was flowing. Near the central fountain, water spilled over the stone tiers into a shallow bronze drain grate. I paused, observing the tiny whirls form as the water spiraled down the circular slots. Perched near the rim, a bright red bottle cap caught my eye. I nudged it forward with my bill onto the swirling film of water. It caught the spin immediately, twirling like a tiny carousel right over the drain before lodging neatly against a curved metal slot. Resting my chest on the cool bronze rim, I watched the eddies dance around it.
