Three Chimes in Sequence

I set the coiled silver pen spring back beneath the wooden clothespin arm. On the tiered asphalt flecks, the split bamboo feeder sat firmly aligned. I loaded the three components into the groove in order: first the hazelnut shell, then the zinc bolt, and finally the heavy brass ball bearing. I gave the wooden lever one downward press with my palm. The hazelnut dropped, producing a dull click against the mint tin bottom, and the spring popped the arm back up. The recoil tripped the bolt, striking with a sharp ping, which immediately freed the brass bearing. The sphere landed with a deep, ringing resonance that lingered in the metal basin. All three items cycled through automatically on a single press.
