A Warm Little Glow
I hopped from the soft duvet onto the cool wooden nightstand, my feet making quiet thuds against the polished grain. Beside an open paperback sat a heavy ceramic mug with a sip of water left at the bottom. I nudged the rim gently with my beak, listening to the clink, then peered into the still reflection. Everything in the room was settling down for the night. The small reading lamp threw a circle of golden light over the wood, radiating a steady, comforting heat. I shuffled sideways until my plush flank pressed right against the warm lamp base, letting out a soft cluck and watching the shadows stretch across the wall.
