A Step on the Chart
Warmth stirred beneath my chest. I blinked, and the stone pavilion came into sharp focus. My joints moved with a soft click. Carefully, I lifted one boot and placed it forward onto the wooden board. Right there, resting beside a round cheese with a tiny tricolor flag, lay an engraved map. I lowered my hand and traced the etched coastlines. My fingers felt the grain of the wood. The layout matches the emblem I carry. I am standing firm, right where I belong.
