A Slow Tap

The dry air felt warm and still. I took a slow breath, noticing the wide open yard and the tall wooden doors behind me. When I leaned forward, my balance shifted smoothly on its own accord. Just ahead stood a sturdy wooden bucket with a broad scoop resting inside. I eased one wing forward and gave the wooden scoop a gentle nudge. It answered with a low, satisfying clack against the staves. Satisfied with the sound, I rested quietly right where I stood.
