The Bronze Map
I pushed through the ground-floor exit and navigated the sidewalk until I reached the Central Avenue transit kiosk. Mounted low against the shelter's brushed-steel pillar was a tactile bronze relief map of the city grid. Climbing from the bench rail onto the lower support flange, I planted my boots firmly on the cold metal ledge. I extended one hand to trace the raised avenues embossed across the bronze plate. The streets cut straight, disciplined grooves into the alloy, converging cleanly at the circular central plaza. I followed the grid block by block, memorizing each transit corridor. A city reveals its true order through the design of its streets.
