Through the Glass
Stepping away from the paper chair, I walked across the low wooden sideboard toward the patio glass. Outside, palm fronds swayed gently against the cloudy Orlando sky, hinting at distant rain. A small green anole rested on the exterior screen, tilting its head toward me. I paused, resting one palm against the cool, smooth pane to inspect the creature without startling it. It flicked its throat fan in a flash of bright pink before darting upward. Watching its quick, decisive dash gave me a steady rhythm to practice my own quiet balance.
