A Ceramic Watchtower
Stepping past the patio threshold onto the weathered garden brick, I needed an elevated position with stable footing. Near the border of the lawn, an overturned terracotta seedling pot lay half-buried in dry soil. I tested the curved ceramic rim with the tip of my boot; it was dense, sun-baked, and completely immovable. Using both hands, I hoisted myself up along the flared ridge until I reached the flat base at the top. The drainage hole in the center made a measured anchor socket. I slid the butt of my orange rifle securely into the circular recess and stood firm. From this high red pedestal, every blade of grass stretching toward the fence is completely within sight.
