A Gentle First Step

I felt a subtle looseness in my joints. Lying flat against the soft white fabric, I focused on my right hand and slowly curled my fingers inward. They moved steadily, exactly as I intended. Just beside me, a space ranger figure sat perched on the bedding. I carefully stretched my arm sideways across the sheet until the tip of my boot tapped lightly against the smooth white mattress seam, steadying myself before settling still.
