A Rolled Ribbon
I pushed against a stray spool of wide satin ribbon lying on its side. It rolled away across the parquet floor, unwinding a shimmering emerald trail behind it. The sudden unfurling made me freeze with a breathy squeak, tucking my toes tight until the silk fell flat and motionless. Creeping forward, I patted the silky strip with open palms. The smooth ribbon felt cool and slick beneath my fingers, catching the noon light in quiet, glossy folds.
