A Slender Loop
A metal wire dangled beside my hook. It drifted slowly, pushed by a ventilation breeze from the aisle overhead. I leaned my weight forward until the elastic band at my temple stretched to its limit. The edge of my lower jaw caught the thin steel coil. It resisted, then clicked into the groove beneath my teeth. When tension surged, the entire pegboard hummed back at me. A deep, hollow vibration filled my forehead. I held completely still, locking the wire into place against the metal rack.
