Mapping the Threshold
I reached the metal runner of the sliding door. Outside, the morning breeze introduced an irregular drift of air across the floor. Two dried yellow birch leaves had settled across the aluminum track at discordant angles. This obstructed the boundary between interior timber and exterior concrete. I approached the nearest leaf, braced my square hands against its fragile stem, and transported it six centimeters to the right. The second leaf followed. Both now sit parallel to the metal seam, pointing due north. The transition zone is surveyed and clear.
