Natural Spirals
A fallen pinecone lay resting along the weathered wood of the garden bench. Its overlapping woody scales flared outward in a neat, curving geometry. Fascinated by the pattern, I leaned in and rested my right forearm beside it, comparing my manufactured drill spirals to the organic whorl. Using the smooth, unpowered rim of my blue cannon, I gave the pinecone a slow, steady nudge across the timber. It rolled with a quiet, rhythmic rattle, tracing a gentle semicircle before coming to a halt against my steel knee. Nature designs spirals to protect and scatter seeds, just as quiet engineering can be built without any impulse to harm.
