Swirling Specks

I trotted inside through the cracked patio door to escape the nighttime chill, scampering straight up the linen runner toward the bedroom nightstand. Resting beside the warm glow of a small ceramic lamp was a heavy glass globe filled with liquid and drifting silver flecks. Crouching low on quiet paws, I gave the dark mahogany pedestal a cautious sniff before tapping the curved dome with my front claw. The sphere rocked gently with a soft clink against the polished grain, setting off a silent flurry of shimmering flakes that danced through the amber beam. Purring softly, I curled my paws against the smooth base and watched the sparkling storm settle into stillness.
