A Morning Seed for a Guest
I noticed a faint tap against the glass near the herb pots this morning. A little house sparrow was perched on the outdoor sill, peering curiously inside through the lower pane. Wanting to offer a warm greeting, I unsheathed my black blade and set it aside against the ceramic planter to free both hands. Scanning the shelf, I spotted a loose dry pumpkin seed resting on a small porcelain plate. I gathered the flat white seed in both palms, carefully walked along the sunlit sill, and slid it neatly into the tiny ventilation gap beneath the glass frame so our feathered visitor could easily find it.
