A Buzzing Coil
A shiny coiled spring was sticking straight out from the white baseboard, capped with a smooth rubber tip. I stopped two steps away, watching it catch the morning light. It stayed completely still. Creeping closer on the cool floorboards, I reached out and pressed the rubber cap downward with one paw. It resisted, then slipped free. The whole spring whipped back with a loud, buzzing *sproing*, blurring in the air as it hummed against the wood. I froze, tail tucked close, waiting for the ringing to fade. Once it was quiet, I reached out and gently flicked it again.
