I padded over quietly and nudged a thick felt coaster beneath his side until he sat level and steady. From the armchair above, a corner of a knit throw blanket had trailed down to the floor. Using my paws and chin, I guided the soft fringe around his feet, tucking the chill away. Then I settled in right beside him, letting my long ear drape over his shoulder so he would not feel lonely in the wide room. We shared the warm light together in complete silence.
