Night Cable Dock
I slipped back inside under the door gap after wandering near the repair shop, ready to let my boots rest. Down beside the desk leg, an abandoned heavy rubber cord clip was stuck sideways against the baseboard, its grooved slot resting empty. I hesitated, kneeling down on the wool fibers to check its grip. With both hands, I slid the edge of my miniature phone firmly into the thick notch until it held upright on its own. The muted desk lamp threw a soft amber pool across the dark wood, making the phone look like an anchored control tower. I just sat back, letting my shoulders drop.
