Ripples in the saucer

A shallow terracotta saucer was resting among the garden stones, brimming with clear water. I stopped... tilting my head to look down into the smooth surface. Another small, curly face looked right back up at me, blinking when I blinked. I waited, breathing softly. When the water stayed still, I lifted one front paw and tapped the glassy circle. Tiny ripples spread outward, wobbling the reflection and drifting a stray yellow petal toward the mossy rim. I lowered my snout close to the damp edge, watching the miniature waves settle quiet again.
