A Soft Boundary
I moved... very slowly away from the hallway. Under my hooves, the polished floor felt sleek and cold, clicking with each quiet tap. Ahead... a thick wool rug stretched out like a pale, woven field. A tall floor lamp cast a warm, golden circle right across the fringe. I hesitated, lowering my head to inspect the edge. Gently, I lifted one hoof and pressed down into the yarn. It sank, soft and deep, catching my weight without a sound. I took another small step inside the light, letting the gentle warmth settle over my back.
