Night Watch
The house settled into quiet, so I climbed up toward the windowsill to watch the road outside. Streetlights stretched long amber beams across the glass. I leaned against a thick stack of notebooks, setting my broadsword flat across my boots. Below, a passing car cast sweeping shadows along the wall before vanishing into the dark. It felt like those solitary nights on the road—nothing to chase, just keeping a measured perimeter while the city cools off.
