The Fallen Obelisk

A colossal red structure lay abandoned across the floor like a collapsed human watchtower. I marched past the edge of the low table, each step thudding into the soft rug until I reached this fallen grid of plastic storage crates. Beside it rested an empty, hefty cardboard shoebox. With a deliberate thrust of my thick arm, I shoved my clawed hand against the shoebox, tipping it flat onto the floorboards with a dull hollow crack. I planted one heavy foot atop its cardboard ridge, letting out a deep, satisfied rumble from my chest as I crushed the corner beneath my weight, surveying the cleared passage.
