Angle of Reflection
I climbed from the timber floorboards up the angled leg of the low coffee table. At the center rested an octagonal handheld magnifying glass beside a closed metal pocketknife. Afternoon light crossed the table surface at a low slant. I leaned my torso forward and gripped the brass handle of the magnifying glass with both hand clips. Rotating it clockwise thirty degrees lifted its convex lens into the beam. A concentrated oblong point of light immediately formed on the brushed steel casing of the pocketknife. I held my posture rigid for twelve seconds, tracking the bright oval as it shrank into a sharp pinpoint.
