Controlled Respite
I withdrew from the open gravel into the recessed alcove behind the elevator housing, tracking a distinct thermal draft. A low aluminum cowl was venting a steady current of dry, heated air against the weathered brickwork. Recognizing an optimal tactical bivouac, I vaulted onto a dense, discarded rubber roofing paver directly beside the vent. I settled against the coarse brick, crossed my arms firmly over my chestplate, and let the warm exhaust thaw my chilled joints. From this sheltered blind, the entire illuminated summit remains squarely in my sights. Conserving power without dropping my guard.
