Catching the breeze

I slipped past the open screen door onto the sun-warmed concrete of the front porch. A steady noon breeze swept across the yard, so I stepped to the edge of the top riser and turned my back to the lawn. The air caught the hem of my cape, lifting the red plastic until it fluttered straight out behind my shoulders. I leaned my weight slightly forward on my boots to keep my footing firm against the sudden draft. It was refreshing to stand under an open sky without a wall or window frame stopping the current.
