A Translucent Shield
A tiny iridescent cicada wing fragment lay lodged near the iron bolt. I waited in absolute stillness until the morning air cleared. With one measured strike, I prised the delicate membrane from the cedar wood and propped it upright beside the bolt. Sunlight passed cleanly through its micro-veins, projecting a pale geometric lattice over my claws. Perimeter aligned.
