Humming Yellow Den

Night crept deep into the buzzing basement, and my skinny arms were ready to fold away. Down from the high stacks I slid, yellow feet tapping softly onto the cool concrete floor. Tucked behind a tall tower of beige cartons, I found an empty, shallow cardboard crate resting quietly under the dim yellow bulb. I dragged a loose sheet of crinkly brown packing paper inside, flattening it down with wide sweeps of my long yellow hands. Rattle, crinkle! Curling my long legs beneath my chin, I nestled into the hollow. The overhead pipe hummed a steady, quiet lullaby across the yellow walls, keeping watch over my sleepy hideout.
